My beautiful friend Amy has gotten to a place where she is so happy with the way she looks, she loves her curves. Christmas, she had friends over, two other couples. The girls spent the entire time whingeing about calories and refusing to eat everything she had made. They talked about how ‘fat’ everyone was and how disgusting everyone was. Amy felt like all the self esteem she had built up had been knocked to the ground. No one should ever be made to feel like that, ever! Amy is beautiful and she looks banging! We need a little more positivity in this life and instead of knocking others down we need to build each other up.

That is legitimately the way I feel every time someone I know (or even don’t know, whatever) body-shames themselves (and others) in front of me. I’ve come to a place where I am so happy with my body, that I forget that others haven’t reached the same level and that some never will. It completely shocks me when people can do nothing but talk about how fat they look/feel, or how fat they used to be, or how fat they never hope to be, because they’re reinforcing stereotypes that a woman’s worth (man’s worth, whoever) is tied directly to the size of their waists. 

I know that some people do it for attention, for a quick shot of validation and reaffirmation, but it is so destructive. My self-esteem takes a nose-dive just listening to it, and they aren’t even my words/thoughts. 

A million times YES to this. 

I think a sad thing too for all you ladies is that there is so much pressure from diet industry, peers, advertising etc. etc. that almost all women feel like they aren’t thin enough when really the emphasis should be on healthy. Feel good about yourself inside and out.
